our work: Improving Content Management Systems

The brief

The purpose of the project was to develop improved information architecture and to lift the copy content from the original product description pagers into an in-house content management system (CMS). The aim was to improve the creation and management of the content and also the usability and accessibility of the site.

The approach

This process required a major design evolution and a ground up rebuild of the HTML in order for the CMS and latest coding standards to be fully utilised. The templates had to work across a range of languages and cultural styles.

The design phase

A unique design was proposed which blended the corporate Invensys brand with those that operate in the Invensys Controls Europe division. HeathWallace created unique design solutions that allowed users to make a range of choices using a product finder that adapts itself to different areas of the site. This was developed using a CSS formatted layout, and the integration of this and the design components into the chosen CMS was also fully supported.

The outcome

A vastly improved design that met all the requirements of the business, operating across a minimal number of templates that were integrated successfully into the CMS. In allowing the site content to be developed by the marketing department, with the structure of the site and its accessibility, significantly improved the visibility of the products, brands and markets the business operates across.
